GBCHealth Featured in The Independent's World Malaria Day Publication
GBCHealth is proud to have been featured in the special World Malaria Day publication in The Independent. The insert highlighted the Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa (CAMA) program that GBCHealth oversees and strong corporate malaria initiatives, including the work of HEINEKEN, Bayer and AngloGold Ashanti. Pam Bolton, Vice President of Membership and Advisory Services, described how corporate malaria programs are making a major difference for both the companies and communities.
The publication also featured GBCHealth Board Co-Chair Ray Chambers, who spoke about making corporate investments in malaria relief more sustainable.

Global Fund Board Meeting & Site Visits
June 14–19, 2013 | Colombo, Sri Lanka
The Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will conduct a Board meeting next month in Sri Lanka. Key topics will include the Global Fund’s upcoming 4th Voluntary Replenishment for donors, the appointment of a new Inspector General and the transition to the Global Fund’s new funding model, launched in March 2013. Space is restricted and attendance at the Board meeting is open to Board Members, Alternate Board Members, Focal Points and select members of the official Private Sector Delegation. The Global Fund Board meeting will be preceded by a full day meeting of the Private Sector Constituency on June 16th. Stop TB Partnership Seeks Candidates for Private Sector Representative to Coordinating Board
The Stop TB Partnership has nine open seats on the Coordinating Board, including one reserved for a member of the private sector, a position was most recently held by a representative from HEINEKEN. GBCHealth Welcomes New CAMA Manager
Ochuko Keyamo will join GBCHealth this month as the new Manager of the Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa (CAMA) program, a coalition of companies addressing malaria in Africa. Keyamo is a Fellow of Atlas Corps, which facilitates overseas fellowships for rising non-profit leaders from around the world. During her year-long fellowship at GBCHealth, Keyamo will manage all CAMA activities and work closely with GBCHealth staff in the New York City headquarters and in Africa, corporate members and technical partners to advance the collective goals of business action on malaria.
Originally from Nigeria, Keyamo brings a winning combination of public health expertise in malaria, stakeholder relations and event management experience to the CAMA position. Most recently, she worked as a senior medical representative for Boehringer Ingelheim (BI). Prior to joining BI, Keyamo was a Research Fellow for a World Health Organization-funded program in which she studied rapid malaria diagnostic testing. She holds a Master’s of Pharmacology and Therapeutics degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

GBCHealth Hosts CEO Roundtable on NCDs

In partnership with Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, GBCHealth recently hosted a CEO Roundtable on Business Engagement on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The event provided a unique opportunity for business and health stakeholders to share insights on the emergence of NCDs as a grave global health and business issue and the role of companies in addressing NCDs.
The event was attended by leaders from Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, Safaricom Limited, GE Africa, Bidco Oil Refineries and BD. They were joined by speakers from the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation of the Government of Kenya. The roundtable discussed the ways in which businesses can work independently or with the public sector to help control and combat NCDs, which account for 38% of the disease burden in Kenya. The meeting culminated with the attendees signing a pledge to collaborate with the WHO, Kenyan government and key health stakeholders in addressing NCDs in the workplace and broader community. Saving Mothers, Giving Life

GBCHealth's first segment of the MDG Health Expert Connections series explored a public private partnership designed to protect women when they are at their most vulnerable: during childbirth. Saving Mothers, Giving Life is a public private partnership of the U.S. Government, Merck for Mothers, the Norwegian Government, Every Mother Counts, Project C.U.R.E. and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Its ambitious goal is to reduce maternal mortality by 50% in select countries in Africa. The webinar showed how the partnership builds on the success of existing programs to improve health systems and explored initial reports of the program’s impact. Read more.
