Carlson owns and operates three businesses:
Together with the Curtis L. Carlson Family Foundation, Carlson has joined the initiative to preserve the rights of abused and exploited children by becoming co-founder of the World Childhood Foundation, established by Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden in 1999. The World Childhood Foundation sponsors more than 100 projects in 14 countries around the world for the betterment of children.
Carlson also was the first North American travel and hospitality company to sign "The Code of Conduct to Protect Children Against Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism." Through this international set of guidelines, travel and tourism companies have pledged to help end the commercial sex trade in children. ECPAT, (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) seeks to encourage the world community to ensure that children everywhere enjoy their fundamental rights free and secure from all forms of commercial sexual exploitation.
