Getty Images became involved in the fight against AIDS in 2003 when it became a GBC member and applied its core strength, photography, to document the issues around this pandemic and to provide GBC with imagery it can use to communicate with members and governments.
More than 100 news photographers at Getty Images capture HIV/AIDS imagery whenever possible as they travel the globe on photo assignments and projects. To date, more than 10,000 AIDS-related images are currently available for license.
In addition, Getty Images photographer Brent Stirton works closely with GBC to document the core issues and the work being done by GBC member companies, as well as the impact and needs that remain, in Africa, China, the Ukraine and India.
In 2005, Getty Images was honored to receive an Award in Business Excellence for Innovation by GBC, for bringing imagery as a powerful weapon in the fight against AIDS.
