Shanghai, China

GBCHealth and the China Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) for Global Fund Programs co-organized a reception for Gabriel Jaramillo, with BD China’s support, on December 4th at the Shanghai Bund Center. Participants included members of the Chinese Ministry of Health (MOH), the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, China CCM, and representatives from local and multi-national companies. Several GBCHealth members were present, including representatives from Accenture, Access Bank, BD, The Coca-Cola Company, Edelman, Nike, Northeast Pharmaceutical Group, Shanghai Desano Pharmaceuticals and Standard Chartered Bank.

Michael Shiu, Vice President and Regional Director, GBCHealth China, welcomed attendees to the reception, thanked BD China for their sponsorship of the event and introduced Dr. Ren MInghui, the Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation within China’s Ministry of Health. Ren gave brief remarks about the collaboration of the MOH with the Global Fund, as well as targets set for the MOH in the year ahead. Shiu introduced the guest of honor, Gabriel Jaramillo, the Global Fund's General Manager, who stressed the need to increase private sector engagement in the fight against HIV, TB, and malaria. Jaramillo was pleased to see so many corporate representatives at the event and thanked GBCHealth and BD for making this event possible before outlining what he sees as the mission for the Global Fund.

The dinner reception represented a significant value to GBCHealth members as an opportunity to interface with officials from the Global Fund and the Ministry of Health. The event also enhanced GBCHealth’s leadership role in demonstrating our ability to mobilize business efforts to make a difference in global health.
