“Unfinished Business” Partnering to Reach Every Woman and Every Child - Agenda

8:00am-10:00am
September 24, 2013

The Lambs Club
132 West 44th Street, New York
Between 6th Avenue and Broadway

The global health community has made significant progress toward reducing child and maternal deaths (Millennium Development Goals 4 & 5) but in too many countries, poor and marginalized communities are being excluded from these life-saving improvements. With only two years left to achieve the MDGs, concerted action is needed from all sectors to reach those "left behind" and to save the lives of millions of mothers and children.

GBCHealth and World Vision will host this breakfast meeting to gather representatives from across the diverse sectors working on MDGs 4 & 5. The goal is to build upon the successful experiences of the private and not-for-profit sectors to promote innovation and accelerate progress to achieve MDGs 4 & 5, through fresh alliances and approaches in the critical years until 2015.

OBJECTIVES

Convened by GBCHealth, World Vision International and The MDG Health Alliance, this breakfast meeting aims to gather representatives from across the diverse sectors working on MDGs 4 & 5. The goal is to build upon the successful experiences of the private and not-for-profit sectors to promote innovation and accelerate progress to achieve MDGs 4 & 5, through fresh alliances and approaches in the critical years until 2015.

  • Share examples of successes and failures to identify critical factors and models in enabling successful partnerships with private sector, government and civil society on MDGs 4 & 5
  • Examine the role of the private sector as an advocate, influencer and convener on maternal, nutrition and child health
  • Forge fresh alliances and collaborations between private sector, civil society and other stakeholders working on MDGs 4 and 5
